10 Greatest Ironies of the Russia Ruse

My apologies for the lack of content for the past few days. I've been taking to social media in response to the HPSCI memo. I don't do politics on facebook much anymore, but if the information provided by the memo is accurate, then we are in the middle of the greatest political scandal in US history. The media are doing everything to undermine it and sweep it under the rug. This is sort of an "all hands on deck" kind of situation. I hope you're contributing as well.

Here is a list of the greatest ironies from an affair that is practically defined by irony. Irony occurs when the actual truth is almost a perfectly opposite contradiction of the perceived truth. Here, the perceived truth is the narrative believed by people who rely on corporate media for their news. It's the standard liberal viewpoint. This list has been compiled quickly and haphazardly, so please let me know if anything significant has been omitted.

10 Greatest Ironies of the Russia Ruse

10.  Rosenstein prosecuted crooked cops

The HPSCI memo names Rosenstein - who initiated the Mueller special counsel after Sessions recused himself - as one of the officials who misled the FISA court. The left has responded - even Comey himself - that the memo is an attack on law enforcement. Apparently airing evidence of crimes committed by law enforcement is "reckless." It seems a bit ironic that Rosenstein himself made his name by prosecuting crooked cops.

9. Bot propaganda

We've learned from the media that anyone whom a liberal doesn't like is a Russian agent, and pro-Trump hangouts like r/The_Donald/ are just collections of Russian bots sharing bot memes. Last week, #ReleaseTheMemo briefly became the #1 trending hashtag on Twitter before moderators removed the tag because it was, of course, a campaign of Russian bots. How ironic is it that there are actually bots being used to attack the HSPCI memo, and being permitted by Twitter moderators?

8. Flynn nabbed for mundane activities

The left was ecstatic when Flynn was charged with perjury. This, they were sure, was it. Depression quickly followed when it was revealed that his communications with foreign governments were normal, mundane, and came after the election (despite some spectacularly fake news from the MSM). It was marvelous to see because it actually gave a huge media spotlight to the fact that their primary hope for collusion evidence had vanished, something that would normally be ignored and downplayed.

7. There was Russian collusion

How ironic is it that the dossier itself resulted from Russian collusion? Steele, who never actually traveled to Russia himself, compiled much of his opposition research by paying Russian informants. Supposedly this was the insider information that the Russian government was blackmailing Trump with. The intel itself remains "salacious and unverified".

What do paid informats tell you? Whatever you'll pay to hear.

6. Liberals wanted Comey sacked

Hillary Clinton has managed to blame nearly everyone in America (and Russia too) for her election loss, except for herself. But no one was blamed as heavily as Comey. Had he not re-opened the investigation, she told us, she would have won. Liberals were outraged. Clearly he was colluding with Trump! But as soon as Comey was fired, it was proof that Trump was obstructing justice. The expectations have largely shifted to the obstruction of justice narrative as no evidence of Russian collusion has surfaced. Nixon's end came because of the cover-up more than the crime, they note, and they're sure the same fate will befall Trump. However, Comey's firing came at the recommendation of (here is the ironic part)....Rosenstein. Boy, his name sure seems to come up a lot. The left is sure Rosenstein did nothing wrong and is under attack by a memo, but also Trump obstructed justice by heeding his advice. To summarize the irony here: the Mueller probe [initiated by Rosenstein] has had its scope widened [permitted by Rosenstein] to look into whether the firing of Comey [recommended by Rosenstein] was illegal.

5. Democrats called for oversight

Democrats seem to be outraged that the House intelligence oversight committee would be providing oversight for an intelligence agency. The irony: they called for oversight! After the election they were so sure that the FBI misbehaved to throw the election to Trump that they demanded the an investigation. The IG did so and reported their findings to Congress. Democrats now demand that the oversight committee not publish or act on any results of the oversight investigation that they demanded.

4. Democrats saying memo is a lie have already lied about the memo

Before the memo was released, we were told by committee Democrats that the memo was inconsequential and that releasing it would threaten intelligence assets & programs. The first was a lie. Assuming the memo is true, it is likely the most consequential documents ever published by the committee. The second was a lie as well, as no intelligence capabilities were harmed in the making of the memo. That HPSCI Democrats - who showed not the slightest concern for Hillary's private email server - would suddenly show a deep concern for national security concerns is richly ironic in itself, but is just a minor twig on the sprawling tree of irony and hypocrisy that is RussiaGate.

Now committee Democrats are claiming that the memo is a lie. So far they are the only ones shown to have lied about the memo, but the media tells us we should go ahead and believe that they've now switched to telling the truth.

3. Investigations hindered

The other response to the HSPCI memo, besides that it is fraudulent and an attack on law enforcement, is that it will hinder ongoing investigations, particularly the Mueller probe. Doesn't the falsification of FISA applications and the evidence of politicization of the high ranks of the FBI to create an "insurance policy" against the election outcome seem like something an independent counsel should know about? Wouldn't withholding the evidence be what hinders the investigation? Ironically enough, the Democrats already did so, when the DNC refused to release their allegedly hacked server - the single piece of evidence around which the entire RussiaGate fiasco is centered - to the FBI for analysis. Why they chose not to is somewhat surprising, given that all evidence indicates that Comey's FBI was highly politicized and fully in the bag for Hillary.

2. The insignificant emails that threw an election

The Democrat response to the leaked emails was that they contained nothing damaging. At the same time, they were so damaging that they changed the outcome of the election. If the emails hadn't been released, we're told, then Hillary would have won. This isn't just irony, but the most profound and widespread example of doublethink that the world has ever seen. Orwell didn't even provide such an extreme example. We've always been at war with Eastasia, the citizens of Oceana chanted, moments after believing they were allied with Eastasia. But at least there is some temporal separation. To be equivalent to today's lunacy, they'd have said something like: We are at war with our ally Eastasia. The emails revealed nothing damaging, and yet they were so damaging that they lost the election.

And the #1 irony from the RussiaGate sea of irony is...

1. The election was actually rigged

Evidence that the primary election was rigged in favor of Hillary was transformed into evidence that the general election was rigged in favor of Trump, and multiple investigations were launched against him. If that's not ironic, nothing is.

A note about the memo

Here's something I want to get on the record before the new week begins. The memo debate has become a he said / she said disagreement between Republicans and Democrats on the intel committee. One side must be lying; the other telling the truth. Either the memo accurately describes the underlying evidence or it does not. We should be able to deduce the answer in the coming week. Whoever moves to get the underlying documents declassified is telling the truth. Whoever seems desperate to find any excuse not to release them is lying.
